TriArb EA – Free MT5 Triangular Arbitrage EA for Forex Trading

In the forex market, multiple currency pairs influence one another as prices are formed. Under normal conditions, these relationships tend to remain relatively balanced, but temporary pricing discrepancies can occur during sharp market moves, major economic releases, or periods of reduced liquidity.

The free Expert Advisor introduced in this article, TriArb EA, is an automated trading system for MetaTrader 5 (MT5) that monitors the price relationships between multiple currency pairs and looks for temporary deviations that may create trading opportunities.

When used in a trading environment where sufficient pricing discrepancies occur and execution conditions are suitable, TriArb EA is designed to take advantage of those short-lived opportunities.

Unlike conventional trend-following or grid/martingale EAs, TriArb EA does not rely on a single chart. Instead, it continuously compares several closely related instruments at the same time.

How the TriArb EA Strategy Works

TriArb EA multi-currency trading strategy

TriArb EA continuously monitors a group of closely related currency pairs and detects temporary deviations from their usual price relationship.

When the detected price discrepancy exceeds a specified threshold, the EA automatically selects the currency pair it determines to offer the most suitable trading opportunity and opens a position on that single instrument. The position is then closed when the price relationship moves back toward normal conditions or when one of the predefined exit conditions is reached.

Unlike traditional triangular arbitrage systems that may hold positions in several instruments simultaneously, TriArb EA opens a position in only one selected instrument. This approach is designed to reduce the execution mismatch and additional transaction costs that can arise when several orders must be filled at the same time.

  • Continuously monitors the price relationships between multiple currency pairs
  • Detects temporary pricing discrepancies and identifies potential entries
  • Trades only the instrument with the most favorable conditions
  • Manages exits based on price convergence, loss limits, and maximum holding time
  • Factors spreads and trading commissions into its entry decisions

To protect the proprietary strategy and prevent unauthorized copying, the exact pricing formulas and internal decision rules are not disclosed.

Supported Instruments and Timeframes

Supported Currency Pairs

By default, the EA is configured to monitor the following three currency pairs:

  • EURUSD
  • USDJPY
  • EURJPY

These pairs share common currencies and therefore form a closely connected pricing relationship. The EA monitors all three instruments at the same time.

You are not limited to these three pairs. Other three-instrument combinations may also be used as long as they share a logical cross-market relationship.

Example: BTCUSD, USDJPY, and BTCJPY

Some brokers add prefixes or suffixes to instrument names. For example, your broker may use symbols such as EURUSDm, USDJPY.a, or EURJPYr. Make sure the EA settings match the exact symbol names shown in your MT5 account.

Supported Timeframes

Because the EA does not primarily rely on candlestick formations, moving averages, or similar chart-based indicators, it can generally operate on any chart timeframe.

Recommended timeframes:

  • M1 (1-minute chart)
  • M5 (5-minute chart)

The selected chart timeframe has only a limited effect on the core trading logic. However, M1 or M5 is recommended because these timeframes make it easier to monitor short-term price movements and confirm that the EA is operating correctly.

TriArb EA Parameters

TriArb EA includes several parameters that allow you to adjust trading conditions and risk management. Settings should be configured according to your broker’s trading conditions, account size, and risk tolerance.

Sym1 / Sym2 / Sym3

Sets the three instruments whose price relationships will be monitored. The default combination is EURUSD, USDJPY, and EURJPY, but other compatible three-instrument combinations can also be entered.

Lots

Sets the lot size used for each trade. Adjust this according to your account balance and the amount of risk you are prepared to accept.

Min Net Edge

Sets the minimum pricing discrepancy required before an entry is considered. Increasing this value reduces trading frequency and limits entries to larger discrepancies.

Exit Edge

Defines how far the pricing discrepancy must contract before the position is closed.

Max Spread

Sets the maximum spread allowed for a new entry. If the current spread exceeds this value, the EA will not open a new trade.

Commission

Sets the trading commission per lot. Enter the appropriate value for the account type you are using.

Hard Stop

Defines the loss limit used when price moves significantly against the position after entry.

Max Hold Seconds

Sets the maximum time a position can remain open. The position will be closed once this limit is reached even if the pricing discrepancy has not fully converged.

Timer Milliseconds

Sets how frequently the EA checks the monitored instruments. A shorter interval increases monitoring frequency but may also increase terminal and system load.

Magic Number

A unique identifier used by the EA to distinguish its own positions. Use a value that does not conflict with other EAs running on the same account.

The EA can run with its default settings, but spreads, commissions, execution speed, liquidity, and symbol specifications vary from broker to broker. Always test the EA on a demo account or with a small live position size before using it with larger capital.

Tips for Finding Suitable Trading Conditions

TriArb EA is designed to detect temporary pricing discrepancies between related instruments and trade when those discrepancies reach the configured threshold.

If a broker’s pricing remains highly synchronized across the monitored instruments, suitable opportunities may occur infrequently and the EA may not generate meaningful returns.

On the other hand, larger temporary deviations can sometimes appear around major economic announcements, periods of rapid volatility, or differences in liquidity and price feeds. These conditions may create more opportunities for the strategy, although they can also increase execution risk, spreads, and slippage.

A combination that does not work well with major currency pairs may behave differently with minor FX pairs, cryptocurrencies, or another account type. Even within the same broker, execution conditions can vary between account types.

Opening an account through one of our partner links and joining the community is required to receive the EA. However, you are not required to run TriArb EA on the same broker used to qualify for distribution. You are free to test different brokers, instruments, and account types to find conditions that suit the strategy.

Latency is also important. If the connection between your MT5 terminal and the broker’s trading server is slow, a pricing discrepancy may disappear before the order is executed, potentially turning a theoretical opportunity into a loss. For this reason, we strongly recommend using a VPS located close to your broker’s trading server. Latency below approximately 10 ms is ideal where practical.

We may share additional tips through X and our Discord community on how to evaluate brokers, account types, trading instruments, and server locations for this type of strategy.

Conclusion

TriArb EA is an MT5 Expert Advisor designed to monitor the price relationships between multiple instruments and identify temporary pricing discrepancies.

  • Multi-instrument analysis rather than relying on a single chart
  • Simple position management with only one selected instrument traded at a time
  • Entry logic that takes spreads and commissions into account
  • Exit management based on convergence, loss limits, and maximum holding time

TriArb EA may appeal to traders who want to explore an approach that differs from conventional indicator-based Expert Advisors and who are interested in short-term strategies based on relative pricing relationships across multiple markets.

However, no automated trading strategy can guarantee profits. Market conditions, spreads, slippage, execution speed, liquidity, broker specifications, and other factors can all affect performance. Use sufficient margin, test the EA carefully, and consider starting with a small lot size.
